Templates and Styles

Congregate allows you to both select a template and color scheme, and perform your own style customizations to supported templates.

Selecting a Template

The template selector allows you to choose the layout and overall color scheme of your website. You can use the controls on the Style Settings page to further customize your site’s appearance.

    1. To select a template, click “Template Selection” under “Configuration” > “Templates/Styles” in Congregate Admin.
    2. Choose to either keep the pre-installed template that was initially setup by Congregate for your account or use the built-in template/color scheme selector by choosing your preference in the “Use Template/Color Scheme Selector” field.
    3. If you wish to select a template, select one from the list of available templates and then select a color scheme for your template.
    4. Click “Save” to make the changes live on your website.

Not Seeing Your Changes?
Make sure to click refresh or reload in your browser. If the updated content is still not showing, clear your browser’s cache. Browsers store data to decrease load time and your browser’s cache may need to be cleared.

Populating the “Antioch” Template

Antioch features a main image slideshow with integrated tab bar for member login, built-in news feed, recent sermons feed, upcoming events feed, recent blog posts, and worship times/direction button. Up to two additional customizable widgets (images, videos, recent articles, recent sermons, recent blog posts, upcoming events, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Maps, or custom HTML code) can be added to the custom footer. Note: built-in tabs cannot be changed or modified in this template except for the exclusion of recent blog posts.

Setting Up the Main Homepage Image/Slideshow

You will need to select at least one image to use for your main homepage image, or use the default image provided. To upload and replace the default image with your own image (or images for a slideshow), use the widget manager to edit or create your “Homepage Main Image/Slideshow” widget. It is this widget’s image that will appear as the main, large image on this template. Create multiple “Homepage Main Image/Slideshow” widgets for a slideshow of images. Recommended image sizes and full details can be found on the add/edit widgets page.

Setting Up Tabs

The homepage tabs on this template cannot be modified. Recent news, sermons, events, and blog posts (if any) will appear on your homepage.

Setting Up the “Worship Times & Directions” Button

This button corresponds to the “About Us” selected in the general settings under “Public Page Assignments.” Select the page you wish this button to link to by choosing it as the “About Us” page.

Adding Optional Homepage Content

To add content to your homepage under the main image and tab system, simply place content on your “home” page in the page manager.

Setting Up Footer Widgets

One column in this template’s footer is reserved for custom widgets. Your widget could contain an image, video, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Maps, or custom HTML code as examples. To find recommended image sizes for footer widgets, full details can be found on the add/edit widgets page. Please consult our documentation on widgets to learn more about how to setup widgets to be used on your homepage.

Recommended Image and Widget Sizes

Homepage Image/Slideshow: 1000px width x 613px height
Sidebar Widget (displayed in the footer): 230px width

Additional Notes

This template’s homepage can optionally display custom content entered on your “home” page, in addition to the built-in image/tab system.

We recommend using our news, sermons, and calendar modules at minimum to ensure your homepage tab system has content and is not empty. The member login tab cannot be removed or disabled, however it is hidden from the homepage if a member is currently logged in.

This template does not support top headline text.

Populating the “Canaan” Template

Canaan features up to nine customizable widgets (images, videos, recent articles, recent sermons, recent blog posts, upcoming events, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Maps, or custom HTML code) and main image slideshow (or video).

Setting Up the Main Homepage Image/Slideshow

You will need to select at least one image to use for your main homepage image, or use the default image provided. This template does not support top headline text.

Populating the “Ephesus” Template

Ephesus features a main image slideshow (or video) with fixed sidebar for welcome text, built-in news feed, recent sermons feed, and upcoming events feed. Up to three additional customizable widgets (images, videos, recent articles, recent sermons, recent blog posts, upcoming events, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Maps, or custom HTML code) can be added. Note: built-in news feed, recent sermons feed, and upcoming events feed cannot be disabled or modified in this template.

Setting Up the Main Homepage Image/Slideshow

You will need to select at least one image to use for your main homepage image, or use the default image provided. Setting Up the Headline Area 

The homepage headline area (to the right of the main image/slideshow) can customized by placing content on your “home” page in the page manager. The content on this page will appear next to the main image/slideshow.

Setting Up Widgets

You can add up to three homepage widgets on this template, which will appear at the bottom of the homepage in rows of three. Widgets can be images, videos, recent articles, recent blog posts, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Maps, or custom HTML code as examples. To find recommended image sizes for homepage widgets, full details can be found on the add/edit widgets page. You’ll use the “sort” field in the widget manager to determine the order of your widgets on the homepage. Additional Notes

The body of this template’s homepage pulls from the public news module. This template’s recent news, sermons, and calendar displays cannot be disabled. We recommend using our news, sermons, and calendar modules at minimum to ensure your homepage has content and is not empty.

This template does not support top headline text.

Jericho features a full-screen image slideshow, top headline bar, and up to nine customizable widgets (images, videos, recent articles, recent sermons, recent blog posts, upcoming events, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Maps, or custom HTML code).

Note: built-in feeds cannot be modified or removed with this template.

Setting Up the Main Homepage Image/Slideshow

You will need to select at least one image to use for your main homepage image, or use the default image provided. To upload and replace the default image with your own image (or images for a slideshow), use the widget manager to edit or create your “Homepage Main Image/Slideshow” widget. It is this widget’s image that will appear as the main, large image on this template. Create multiple “Homepage Main Image/Slideshow” widgets for a slideshow of images. Setting Up the Welcome Box 

The homepage welcome box can be customized in the “Nineveh Template Home Page Options” section in the general settings of Congregate Admin. You can enter a custom welcome box title and short paragraph of text. The “Learn More About Us” button corresponds to the “About Us” selected in the general settings under “Public Page Assignments.” Select the page you wish this button to link to by choosing it as the “About Us” page.

Setting Up the Tabs 

The homepage tabs on this template can be customized in the “Nineveh Template Home Page Options” section in the general settings of Congregate Admin. You can elect to display recent news and the passage of the day as your tab content or replace the passage of the day/both tabs with your own custom content. If you wish to replace both tabs with your own content, simply place content on your “home” page in the page manager. The content on this page will replace the tabs if this option is enabled.

Setting Up Widgets

You can add homepage widgets on this template, which will appear under “Recent Sermons” on the right side of your homepage. Widgets can be images, videos, recent articles, recent blog posts, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Maps, or custom HTML code as examples. To find recommended image sizes for homepage widgets, full details can be found on the add/edit widgets page. You’ll use the “sort” field in the widget manager to determine the order of your widgets on the homepage. Please consult our documentation on widgets to learn more about how to setup widgets to be used on your homepage.

Additional Notes

This template’s homepage can optionally display custom content entered on your “home” page, replacing the tab system.

This template’s recent sermons and calendar display cannot be disabled. We recommend using our sermons and calendar modules at minimum to ensure your homepage has content and is not empty.

This template supports top headline text.

Style Settings

The style editor allows you to make changes to the appearance of your website. You can see a brief preview of your selections in the “Style Preview” window at the bottom of the page.

To customize your style and images, click “Style Settings” under Configuration > Templates/Styles in Congregate Admin.

Main Logo: upload the logo you wish to use on your website. We recommend logos to be uploaded in the PNG or JPG format. If no logo is provided, text of your church’s name will appear instead. 

Favicon/Website Icon: upload a favicon for your website. The image must be exactly 32×32 pixels and in the PNG or ICO format. If no favicon is provided, a default Bible favicon will appear instead. 

Email/Admin Logo: upload a square version of your logo for use in Congregate Admin, Congregate Members app, daily and weekly recap emails, and in the pop-up media player. The image should be exactly 300×300 pixels and in the PNG or JPG format. If no image is provided, an empty or default placeholder image will appear instead.

App Dashboard Logo/Header Image: upload an image to appear on the home screen within the Congregate Members app. The image should be no larger than 900×900 pixels and in the PNG or JPG format. If no image is provided the email/admin logo image will appear instead.

Body Text Color: the color of the basic text throughout your website.

Accent Color: the color of secondary texts throughout your website.

Headline/Link Color: the color of headlines and links throughout your website.

Headline/Body Text Font: the font for basic text throughout your website.

Fonts Preview
Preview all of Congregate’s available fonts by visiting Google Fonts.

Body Font Size: if you need to increase or decrease the default font size, select a new font size.

Secondary Font: the font for secondary text throughout your website.

Church Name Font: if you have not uploaded a church logo, select the font used for your church name.

Church Name Color: if you have not uploaded a church logo, select the color of your font.

Background Image: if your template supports a custom background image, upload it here. Large background images can slowdown your website’s loading time; only upload backgrounds that have been properly compressed and scaled.

Background Placement: if your template supports a custom background image, select how it will be positioned on your site (top-aligned, center-aligned, bottom-aligned, or tiled).

Background Color: if your template supports a custom background color, select it here.

Content Separator Fade Image: if your template supports a custom “fade image,” upload it here. (The “fade image” is the image that separates the main content from the sidebar on supported templates; typically a color gradient fading to white.)

Navigation Bar: select text color, hover text color (i.e., when your mouse moves over a link), font, size, active menu item color, and dropdown menu colors to customize your navigation bar on supported templates.

Custom Styling

If you wish, you can enter your own custom CSS to further style your site. Simply enter your own CSS in the “Custom CSS” field editor. Custom CSS is for advanced users; please do not enter anything in the “Custom CSS” field unless you’re familiar with coding CSS. Use your browser’s inspector to find the class and ID names used throughout your site.
