General Settings

Estimated reading time: 5 min

Congregate’s general settings page is where you will initially set up and configure your website. (Your church logo and image associated with your website are managed on the “Style Settings” page. Don’t neglect these items when setting up your site initially.)

To manage your general settings, click “General Settings” under Configuration inside Congregate Admin.

Website Settings and Descriptions

Church Name: enter the name of your church. This will be used as the title of your website as well.

Website URL: enter the address of your website, including the “http://”. If you want all pages of your website to be SSL secured, use the “https://” prefix.

SSL Secure URL: enter the address of your website, including the “https://”.

Website Status: select “Website is in Development” until your website is completely live, launched to the public, and your domain name is configured. After your site it live, change to “Website is Live” to activate SSL and search engine indexing.

SSL and Search Engine Access
Enabling SSL and search engine indexing requires your site to be live and launched via your domain name. If your site is not live, your website will not load if this option is set prematurely. Please ensure the domain name you enter is correct and that your site has already been launched and is accessible at your domain name before choosing live status.

Custom Header Codes/Scripts: if you have any custom meta codes, tracking codes, Javascript, etc. enter them here. Such codes will appear on all pages throughout your site.

Timezone: select your local time zone. This is used for reminders and time-based events.

Duplicate Parent Links in Dropdown Menus: if you wish to have the parent link repeated in your dropdown menus, enable this option. E.g., the “About Us” page might have “Service Times” as a dropdown page, but visitors might not realize they can also click on the “About Us” page too. If enabled, Congregate will make “About Us” a dropdown page as well.

Hide Subscription Links: if you wish to hide all podcast, calendar, and news feed links on your site, enable this option.

Google Analytics UA ID: enter your Google-provided “GA4 ID” here to track visitors on your website.

Google Analytics
You can track visitors to your website using Google Analytics. If you do not already have an account, visit http://www.google.com/analytics to create one. In order for Congregate to implement tracking, you’ll need your account GA4 ID.

Google Analytics Display: enter your Google-provided property ID and upload your Google-provided key file to view visitor data inside Congregate Admin.

Google Analytics Display
To view website visitor data within Congregate you must have and/or create a Google Cloud project, service account, key, and grant API access your Analytics’ property. Note: this may require the assistance of someone who is familiar with Google Cloud projects to properly configure your project. Unfortunately, Google Cloud is not for the novice user and Congregate cannot offer technical support for Google Cloud. If you already have a Google Cloud project integrated with Google Analytics (e.g., from the previous Congregate integration) you only need to enter the Property ID and generate/upload a new key file in the JSON format.

To setup your Google Cloud project:

1. Inside Google Analytics, note the property ID for your website. Read more…

2. Create a Google project/service account. Read more…

3. Enable the Google Analytics API in your project. Read more…

Footer Text: enter your church address, phone number, email address – basic contact information – to appear in the footer of each page on your website.

Only required if you plan to use the member map and/or visitor map modules.

Modules that plot data on Google Maps (such as the member map and visitor map) require you to register and provide your own Google API keys. Please see https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/geocoding/get-api-key for more information and obtain your keys. Ensure there are no domain/IP restrictions when creating your API key as Congregate uses multiple servers to retrieve map data.
